How IoT Venture lives positive feedback culture – an insight from Monika Ankoliya

In this post Frontend Developer Monika gives a small impression of her tasks and the working atmosphere at IoT Venture.

When I started here, I was the only one who had further developed the app. My predecessor was no longer with us. I made loads of mistakes but nobody blamed me for them. The only thing they said to me was that I needed to perform tests the next time.

We have a positive error culture. Everyone speaks to each other. It’s a friendly environment where everyone watches out for one other. Today, I can joke with my colleagues about the mistakes I made back then.

Everyone is allowed to make mistakes and do better next time here.

I was still in my probationary period in those days and wanted to find an optimum solution for everything. I worked for 10 hours, looking hard for the mistakes. Then my colleagues told me to work just 8 hours and continue the next day if I didn’t manage to find the mistakes. We all look out for each other.

You can ask anyone anything. You don’t need to think about what you’re going to say and how to say it. Everyone is open and helpful.

There are also no barriers between departments and the boss is very approachable. Everyone says what they think. You take on responsibility and can try things out.

In my previous jobs in larger companies, you could also approach anyone, but you had to think about how you were going to phrase things. A lot of people would also ask: ‘Monika, why are you talking to the other department?’

Here, I can go to another department and exchange thoughts and ideas without any qualms.

There is still a great feeling that everyone is highly committed, the project will be successful and we all know each other and watch out for one another.

I joined a startup where there were initially just a few people. Even though the workforce has rapidly expanded from 20 to more than 60 and we now have a structure with departments and responsibilities, we all still know each other. Anyone who comes into the office calls by and says hello. I always know who to consult about specific topics.

You can organize your own working hours. I don’t have to ask permission to work from home. I can decide for myself. We communicate about this openly in the team

If I had to convince someone to join IoT Venture, I’d tell them that everyone is friendly and supportive and there’s no need to get stressed about things.
